Gavin wins an Ivor Novello Award

Gavin’s trombone concerto, The Book of Miracles, has won an Ivor Novello Award in the orchestral category.

The concerto, written for Helen Vollam and premiered by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Alexander Vedernikov in February, impressed the judges who called it “a finely constructed concerto presented the soloist with challenging material”. They said, “the piece explores the full potential of the orchestra with a strong sense of thematic unity and it’s a major addition to the repertoire”.
